The Future of Landscape Design & Community Building

Speaker: Saba Farmand, East Van Boulevard Garden Tours

Saba is a landscape architect with a passion project that documents & promotes boulevard gardens. These are any “garden-like interventions” (in the broadest sense) that a citizen installs on the boulevard, which is the strip of land between the road & the sidewalk.
The boulevard is public property, & by default it is planted with only grass. When adjacent residents replace the grass with their own “gardens”, it imparts many benefits to the surrounding community.
You will learn about these benefits & the observations Saba has gleaned from photographing thousands of boulevard gardens over the years, as well as the story behind his boulevard garden walking tours, which have raised thousands of dollars for a local non-profit & garnered local and national media attention.
Hear the story about how his project that began on Instagram, has evolved into what it is today: An online & real world environmental education, nature awareness, & urban literacy movement that builds & fosters community.

Speaker: Michelle Roundell and Jessica Golding of Gensler

The experience informs how we feel in a space. How do we design a Whole Workplace that meets our evolving needs and creates a holistic, human experience?

          – Does our workplace reflect and support our culture?
          – Does our workplace foster connection, community, and collaboration?
          – Does our workplace offer amenities that supports our work life balance?
          – Does our workplace provide flexibility, autonomy, and both virtual and in-person opportunities for engagement?
