Currents
The Pacific Northwest is paving a new path in the design world with a rich and varied set of designers producing outstanding pieces and trends. IDS Vancouver is the centre-point for all things design in the Pacific Northwest and we are pleased to present our first book: “Currents: Contemporary Pacific Northwest Design.”
Curated by IDS Director Jody Phillips and published by Scandinavian publishing house New Heroes & Pioneers, the book explores the design boom in the Pacific Northwest, the similarities and differences in fundamental principles within the creative field and over 40 remarkable makers and designers behind this extraordinary hotbed of design. Set against striking photography, the book (designed by Daniel Zachrisson) navigates the landscape and settings which inspires this area and talks with leading designers in the industry.

Only scratching the surface and by no means comprehensive, we present this as the A to Z (zed or zee) of contemporary design in the Pacific Northwest. (For purposes of this book, we define the PNW as the area west of the Rockies to the north and the Cascade mountains to the south). The intention is to celebrate a cross-section of the diverse designers and makers who call this region home.
