IDS 360° Virtual Series: Birch & Grey
IDS 360° is a new virtual series created by IDS in solidarity with the industry and designers we champion. Launched across all our platforms, it highlights handpicked, diverse brands with video Q+As, product launches, studio tours, and more. Not taking our voice and reach for granted, the national IDS platform is accessing individual designers, architects and brands of all sizes to hear their visions, challenges, triumphs and potential for a more thoughtful, more beautiful design practice, post-pandemic.
We are thrilled to continue the IDS 360° series with Edmonton-based Birch & Grey, a multi-disciplinary creative studio led by Dale Shippit. Birch & Grey was founded in 2009 and they work with a number of materials including wood, steel, concrete, resin and glass. The studio embraces colour and collaboration equally with their designs.
We asked the Birch & Grey team how their design process had changed these days and how they see their approach evolving in the future. The video below shares some insight by Birch & Grey founder Dale Shippit on where the studio is and where it’s headed.
About Birch & Grey
“The Birch & Grey design studio was started out of a passion to focus on well-made goods. Over the past few years, our team has fluctuated from a single person studio to a small team and back to me again. We are passionate about building and creating unique items. From furniture to objects and sculpture. We work with a wide range of materials from solid wood, clay, acrylics, concrete and steel. We operate largely in a collaborative state with our clients and other makers to ensure high-quality work and well thought out designs. Our hope is that we can provide you with unique works that are a fit for your space and emotions using our personal aesthetic.“
